Dietetics Scholarships

Many opportunities for work and volunteer experience exist on and off campus. Students work at the USDA-Beltsville Human Nutrition Research CenterThe Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, the National Agriculture Library's Food and Nutrition Information Center, campus dining, the campus health center, regional industry, health care providers and food service operations.

Scholarship opportunities are sometimes available through the department, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietitics, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Institute of Food Technologists.  The Undergraduate Admissions Office has more information on scholarships for freshman and transfer students.

Information on employment and scholarships is posted through the departmental undergraduate email listserv. You are strongly encouraged to obtain an e-mail account and contact us at nfscinfo@umd.edu to be sure that your name is added to the email list for Dietetics. You may also contact your faculty advisor for more information.

Students are also encouraged to become involved in professional organizations such as the DC Metro Area Dietetic Association, the Maryland Dietetic Association, and the Society for Nutrition Education DC Metro Chapter, as well as national professional organizations such as the American Dietetic Association and the Society for Nutrition Education. Participation in these organizations provides excellent leadership training and an opportunity to network with area dietitians and nutrition professionals.
