Undergraduate

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers three undergraduate majors for students who would like to pursue challenging careers in the growing field of food and nutrition.  To learn more about each major, see our Undergraduate Admissions page.

Outside of the Classroom

Students in all three majors are encouraged to take advantage of work and volunteer opportunities, join student organizations, and become studnet members of professional organizations.

Work and Volunteer Opportunities

Our close proximity to Washington, D.C. and the Federal Government allows us to offer students a variety of work and volunteer experiences both on and off campus.  Students in all three majors have worked or volunteered at government agencies such as the United States Department of Agriculture's Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, the National Agriculture Library's Food and Drug Administration, and the National Center for Health Statistics.  Other students have worked or volunteered at the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, the Food Processors Association, campus dining, the campus health center, regional industry, health care facilities, food service operations, and research laboratories.

Student Clubs

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science house two student clubs, the Food and Nutrition Club, and the Food Science Club.  Both sponsor guest speakers, organize community events, educate other students about nutrition and food science, and have social gatherings.  Joining these student organizations is a great way to meet other students and faculty and provides an opportunity for leadership experience.
