Maryland Day, previously known as Ag Day, began in the late 19th century and has celebrated its Maryland pride for 93 years. This year Maryland Day 2018 was celebrated on Saturday, April 28th and brought in over 85,000 visitors to the UMD campus. The numerous tables set up around campus represented our diverse community highlighting: education, research, the arts, public service, athletics, and surrounding community programs. Each table featured demonstrations, entertainment, food, and information about the specific organization and what they do. UMD’s Dietetic Program had a great time interacting with young energetic children and their families!
This past Maryland Day, Healthy Eating Discovery (HED) Summer Camp (created by UMD’s Dietetic Program) was involved in our presentation. Our table advertised information about HED: a colorful poster (created by yours truly) with various pictures of past campers and counselors, smiling fruits and veggies, and fun text. We also had some fun activities: a bean bag toss, nutrition jeopardy, jokes from volunteers in fruit costumes, coloring aprons, and temporary tatoos.
Our table couldn’t have been possible without the help of our volunteers: Semira Said, Carolann O’Connor, Taylor Kasoff, Precious Nwokeleme, Daniel Kim, Sabrina Riordan, and Shannon Borgoyn (me!). Also, thank you Dr. Udahogora and Ashley Lewis for prepping and working behind the scene for us. It wouldn’t have been possible without you all!
