NFSC Dietetic interns field trip to the Baltimore-based Vegetarian Resource (VRG) along with a photograph are featured on the cover of the most recent issue of the VRG Magazine. By attending this field trip all interns (vegetarians and non-vegetarians) are exposed to “the vegetarian and vegan world” in terms of client frequently asked questions (FAQ) ranging from infant nutrition to school lunch nutrition to cultural vegetarianism (kosher diets) to elderly vegetarian issues. Interns develop vegan meal plans for various age groups, discuss ethical concerns (including food industry issues) and prepare a variety of vegan, lower sodium food items for taste-testing. Based upon interns online anonymous class day/ field trip feedback – this is probably their favorite field trip. The NFSC Dietetic Internship remains grateful to the Vegetarian Resource Group for providing this field trip every year.
